Poker community

In last 2 years a new phenomena of virtual communities occured. Now all the areas have their own communities, including poker. Poker communities are mostly poker forums, but recently some new types of communities appear. The main issue of such community is the possibility to provide own poker information and share experience about the play. Therefore every self-respecting player now write his poker blog about his hands, participation in online and offline tournaments etc.

Poker community is not only blog writing. It is also an interaction between poker players, who are competitors at the poker table. People are sharing the pictures (mainly the screenshots of unusual situations online or their winning hands. Also they are communicating via internal email or participate in the discussion groups. Poker community area is still developing. So far the main sites are MY.pokernews.com and pokerspace.com. Of course people use other most popylar community engines such as Facebook and MySpace.

Poker pros

How to become a poker professional? Play, play, play and one more million times play poker!

Only these people who understand how not to loose can be called poker pros. Others are amateurs even though thei know poker rules, strategies and are lucky. They think about victory "how will I win this tournament?" Poker pro would think "How not to loose anything and get at least buy-in and travel expences back". This is, in my opinion, the difference between amateurs and pros. Then common poker player can become famous as Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hansen, Tony G., Phil Ivey, Annie Duke, Marcel Luske, Mike Sexton etc.

Poker is the way of living, not a job. All the players who plays both internet poker and B&M poker should remember that.

Every player is writer

I have a dream about writing the best book about online poker. Not by mysself. If you gather the best 20,000 online poker players and ask them to write a short chapter and then edit all these text, you could read the biggest and the most exhaustive probability book.

Simple players coud tell lots of stories. About everything: hands, crashes, loose games, stupid players etc.

Poker is a very universal game. It unites people of all kinds: businessmen, students, military officers, housevives, celebrities. Online poker makes them equal at the table, because they cannot see each other. In real poker games, a beginner does not have much chanses to sit against a pro.

The beginning of Poker

Pre-1600 First Games: Card games in both France - Gilet - and Italy - Primero - had elements of what we now know as poker: betting on hands with pairs, three of a kind, and three of the same suit.

1600-1790 Evolution: These games spread and evolved into Brag in England, Pochen (Germany), and Poque (France). They even had elements of bluffing, and the names of the German and French versions are obviously very close to the word "Poker". In the German game, players would indicate whether they wanted to pass or open by rapping on the table and saying, "Ich Poche!" However, there a school of thought that claims the Hindu word, pukka, as the origin of poker, and certainly the "pukka sahibs" (the white rulers) in India certainly played a version of such a game.

1790-1830 Poque: In French-speaking New Orleans, sailors from Persia taught the French settlers the gambling card game, Âs, which was derived from the ancient Persian game of Âs Nas. This required a special deck of 25 cards with 5 suits (5 cards per suit total) and was played by four people. The settlers absorbed some of the elements of this game into their own game of Poque, saying, "I poque (pronounced, as the French do, in two syllables - po-que) for a dollar," or "I poque against you for two dollars." The evolving game became known first as "Poqas" , then "Pokah".and finally "Poker".

We can probably ignore other speculation about the name, such as its coming from "poke," a term used by pickpockets, or "hocus-pocus", a term used by conjurors.

Poker is not evil - it's big industry now!

Poker is not evil!

Some people still imagine, that poker is an evil game. One can loose everything, afterwards commit a suicide, kids without father etc. These things can happen even in barbers shop business, so every person is responsible for his/her own benefits.

Poker is exciting game. We can argue if it is more luck or mathematics. I know for sure that at least 15% of all poker players earn for living playing only poker and doing nothing. People quit jobs to sit at the table and feel the adrenaline flow when they have Full House, but not sure if guy in other side of a table has got Flush.

Poker industry is well developed in the United States. Nevada state has probably the most casinos in the world. Las Vegas is definitely the capital of gambling in America (Monaco is the capital of gambling in Europe). The industry is growing really fast.

Internet poker industry is booming in astronomic speed. More than 200 online poker rooms are in world wide web so far. Some of them goes bankrupt, some just opens, but players who want to play in Internet are really happy about vast choices.

I am observing this industry and will tell some of the most exiting events.
